Husbandry

This part is still under construction. Any questions or comments? Send me an e-mail or give me a call: contact ...

The general rule: there are good publications on about every relevant aspect of reptile husbandry. So I won't try to explain e.g. different ways to incubate eggs, hibernate snakes, or build and heat cages. The range of specific magazines and books is immense, the staff of publishing houses and/or book shops will be kean to help you, for example at the terraristic show
Breeders' Expo Europe in Rheda/Germany. For those who can't or don't want to go to shows there are online book shops supplying you with adequate literature.

Publishing houses for reptile specific magazines:

Draco
Herpetofauna
Reptilia
Reptiles (US)
Sauria

You'll find a few basic notes on the husbandry of my species checking the
project/species pages. Clicking the lower level links on this page you'll find some aspects of keeping and breeding that originate from my personal experience. Perhaps there're some bits that help you out.

Building an Outdoor Enclosure for Rat Snakes
Tiliqua rugosa on the Balcony
Summer Enclosure for Dragons, Dwarf Monitors etc.
Dendrobates and Phyllobates in Room-Sized Enclosure

Literature:

This is a list of books I personally find very helpful. Understandably this list doesn't claim any completeness. As a general rule I absolutely don't like American books. In most examples they lack detailed and up-to-date information, the American way of husbandry isn't allowed in most European countries anyway, and the quality of the photographs as well as their pre-press and printing is very poor. This mustn't be necessarily so as Greg Maxwell's "The More Complete Chondro" proves ... and it's not a problem of the language either: there's a lot of very good Australian books. Unfortunately most of them are out of print and you will be happy if you can put your hands on a used copy.
